Seaman aboard the Admiral Y.S. Williams, an American freighter in dry dock at Hong Kong in December 1941.  Captured after the fall of Hong Kong on December 25, 1941.   Interned at Stanley, where he worked in the camp kitchen.  Repatriated in August 1942.  From Omaha, NB.

Shipping executive for American Trading Company, the American firm that owned the freighter Admiral Y.S. Williams, which was captured in drydock along with its all-American crew in December 1941 in Hong Kong.  A U.S.

Margaret Ann NORTH [????-????]

Two other New Zealand nurses were among the three thousand prisoners at Stanley Camp, Hong Kong.

 

Margaret North , a missionary nurse who had worked at Hangchow , was given permission to join the Military Nursing Service . At first she was destined for Singapore , but eventually arrived at Hong Kong in November 1941 . On Christmas Day Hong Kong capitulated,  and for her splendid work during the preceding bombardment , Miss North became the only missionary nurse to receive the R.R.C. *

  • Sister Harrington, who comes from Slade Green, Kent, nursed the sick internees in Stanley camp, Hong Kong
  • In addition to her nursing duties Sister Harrington served in the kitchens and helped at the camp wash tubs
  • During her internment she suffered a broken arm and leg
