Hatlan after the garrison capitulated to the Japanese military on December 25, 1941. Hunger and wounds forced Swaney to surrender to Japanese forces on Lantau. Initially sent to Stanley Prison, then released into the Stanley internment camp. Repatriated in August 1942. Joined US Army post-repatriation. From San Francisco.
