Marion Dudley began her social work career in the YMCA in 1917. She came to Hong Kong in 1927 to work for the YWCA till 1931 and then returned to China again in 1938. In 1941, she was the advisory secretary for the YWCA in South China. Marion Dudley was interned in Stanley Camp and repatriated to the United States the following year.

Upon her return to the United States, she gave talks about life in Stanley Camp and the need of participation by women in camp affairs. In December 1943, she announced plans to return to China and work for the National YWCA of China. In June 1944, she and her group arrived safely in Kunming. From her personal papers, Dudley remained in China until 1947 and returned to the United States in the same year.
