Jennie Paula White was married to Felix Frederick Arthur Dunnett. They had a son, Michael born in Hong Kong on 23 November 1940. Her husband was in the HKVDC and fought in the Battle of Hong Kong.
During the battle, Jennie Paula Dunnett sought refuge in the Repulse Bay Hotel. In the book "Prisoner of the Japs" Gwen Dew writes about the siege of the hotel: "The American women included ............... nineteen year old, Jennie Dunnett and her infant son, Michael. She was married to a Britisher who was fighting in the Volunteers. He managed to get to the hotel several times to see her, but after surrender was sent to a military camp far away from his family." During the siege of the hotel, her father, C. E. White was also present. Jennie Dunnett, her infant son and father were interned in Stanley Camp but were later repatriated to the United States in 1942.
Felix Dunnett was interned and subsequently shipped to Japan to a POW camp and endured hardship and forced labour. At the end of the war he was in Sendai Camp #2.
Not able to trace back what transpired after liberation but in 1952, Jennie Dunnett appears to be living in Hong Kong at 1 Tai Po Market Road at the time of her father's death.
