George BRASS [????-????]

Served at RAF Kai Tak as Leading Aircraftman (LAC) from October 1938. Captured on 25 December 1941 and later sent to Sham Shui Po POW Camp. Sailed on the MV Tatuta Maru for Japan in January 1943 and subsequently died in camp. 

A photo and article on George Brass appeared in "Gau Lung", official magazine of RAF Kai Tak in March 1969 and can be read here

Alice WALKEN [1852-1884]

The original Alice Memorial Hospital at the corner Hollywood Road and Aberdeen Street was erected in her memory by her loving husband, Dr. Ho Kai and friends. The Hospital was opened on 17 February 1887.

Arratoon Vertannes APCAR [1872-1931]

Mr Arratoon Vertannes Apcar was a shipping merchant and long time Hong Kong resident of some 38 years and descended from the Armenian Apcar family originally from Persia. He was the managing director and founder of Messrs. A.V. Apcar and Co. Ltd.. He started in the opium business but later founded the firm of merchants and commission agents which bore his name. For some years the firm was agents in Hong Kong for the Ultramarino Bank of Macao.

Percy Hobson HOLYOAK [1874-1926]

Percy Hobson Holyoak moved to Hong Kong in 1899 as a member of Reiss & Co, which then became Holyoak, Massey & Co. He rose to become an unofficial member of Legco. He was Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce 1917-1918 and 1920-1921. He also became Chairman of the Hong Kong Club,  the Alice Memorial Hospital and the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation.  He was District Grand Master of Freemasonry in Hong Kong and South China.

George HORSPOOL [1844-1926]

Senior Hong Kong policeman in the late 19th century

His son was Fred Horspool born in Hong Kong 1884.

"THE appointment of Mr. George Horspool, Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police, to be Acting Captain Superintendent, has been officially gazzetted. This is a step in the right direction and one that, we trust, will be consistently followed in all departments of the Government Service where the deputy is capable of taking over and efficiently performing the duties of his immediate chief."

Albert James WARREN [1873-????]

At the risk of going off the Gwulo "piste", I wonder if anyone can help me trace Albert Warren, the younger brother of my grandfather, Charles Warren and youngest of all the Warren siblings. In the thread https://gwulo.com/charles-edward-warren David once suggested that he might have followed his brother to Hong Kong, when an A.H. Warren turned up, but it wasn't him. Just one year apart in age, the brothers must have been close.

Thomas Charles STIFF [1891-1951]

Hong Kong Government Nautical Surveyor 1929-1931, Assistant Harbour Master from 1931. Deputy Harbour Master for Hong Kong Government 13th February 1940 and then resumed position 26th September 1945 upon release as civilian internee in September 1945

Doris Mary FRITH [1921-1992]

Herself an Eurasian, she was the wife and then widow of Oswald Chan (1918-1946), Eurasian R.A.F. pilot.

Later married another Eurasian Edwin Johnsford Macomber Churn (1912-1991) on 20th January 1951

William Gould Bennett Denman FULLER [1880-1925]

Obituary - Hong Kong Telegraph 4 January 1926

Denman Fuller was a long time organist and choirmaster of St. John's Cathedral. He retired several years ago on account of ill-health. He was prominently associated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, and was, in addition Secretary of the City Hall Library and Curator of the Museum.
