A midshipman of H.M.S. Orlando who accidentally shot himself in the head with a Mauser revolver at Castle Peak, New Territories, when out on a shooting expedition with mates.
Former Gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery during WWI and later clerical officer in the Royal Naval Dockyard who died in Hong Kong shortly after his arrivial in the Colony in April 1939.

Mary Monro is author of Stranger In My Heart (Unbound, 2018), which gives the eye witness account of her father, John Monro MC RA, who fought at the Battle of Hong Kong, was interned by the Japanese at Sham Shui Po and escaped 1200 miles across China to reach Chongqing. There he was made Assistant Military Attaché and spent the next 18 months supporting and trying to liberate the POWs he'd left behind. Mary retraced her fafther's escape route across China and the book also includes her journey of discovery.

Merchant and Trading agent. In 1872 he joined the export/import business Adamson, Bell and Company in Shanghai. The company dealt in shipping, silk and tea. In 1875 it opened an office in Hong Kong and also started in insurance.
