### **1. Initial Planning & Site Preparation (1921–1922)**

His Excellency, Sir William Peel, K.B.E., C.M.G., Patron of St. John Ambulance Brigade, has very kindly consented to present Long Service Medals, medallions, and labels to entitled Brigade members on Monday at 5 p.m. at King's College.
King's College on Bonham Road was struck by lightning a few minutes before 9 a.m. yesterday, causing significant damage to its north wing. The buildings are in close proximity to the University, where a cupola was reportedly struck by lightning some years ago.

The first annual athletic meeting of King's College, held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Sir William Peel, K.C.M.G., K.B.E., was a great success. The event took place yesterday afternoon on the Caroline Hill ground, attended by a large crowd. Fortunately, the weather kept clear, but a strong wind rather handicapped the runners, and therefore the times recorded were not as good as expected.

The annual athletic sports at Diocesan Boys' School (D.B.S.) were held yesterday, with athletes performing well despite strong winds. Close competition was particularly evident in the relay races. Kaan Wah-tuen and K. Knight shared points for the senior championship, while J. Nicall and V. Knige won the middle and junior championships, respectively.

The Chinese Y.M.C.A. proved too strong for King's College last evening, decisively winning their "A" Division League Badminton match by 8 sets to 1.

Mr. William Kay, M.A. (Edin.), Head Master of King's College, who was appointed to the Education Department in August 1913, is shortly leaving the Colony upon retirement. He celebrated his 52nd birthday on Monday.
Mr. Kay arrived in the Colony on September 11, 1913. He was appointed Acting Head Master of the Saiyingpun English School and a year later became Head Master of the Wanchai English School.

The prize-giving ceremony for King's College summer school was held yesterday at the College. Mr. J. J. Ferguson, an Assistant Master at King's College, distributed the awards to approximately 200 boys and girls present.
Mr. Ferguson presided over the event in the absence of the Principal, Mr. H. G. Wallington, who was unable to attend. He congratulated the prize-winners and expressed his appreciation for the good work of the teachers.

Today's Junior Division League badminton programme features only one match likely to be very interesting: Chung Wah versus King's College. This match should result in a victory for Chung Wah.
King's College's team is almost identical to last year's, and although they are capable of extending Chung Wah, Chung Wah are very well-balanced and should win fairly comfortably, provided conditions at the College do not worry them too much.
