Ho Mun Tin Halt Station [1921-????]

Submitted by Klaus on Tue, 08/30/2022 - 21:35

The 1921 Railway Report refers:

A Halt Station was opened at Ho Mun Tin, mile 2¼, where the local morning and evening trains call for the convenience of a new community which has lately settled at this point, and a temporary platform built of old sleepers was provided. This is not an ideal site for a station and will probably not be required when the road trams serve the neighbourhood, as is anticipated will be the case in the near future.

From: Kowloon Canton Railway (British Section) - A History

A temporary railway track had been laid in a reserved section of Salisbury Road pending completion of a more permanent facility, and part of a godown belonging to the Hong Kong & Kowloon Wharf & Godown Company had been rented and turned into a temporary station building.

Temporary station on Chatham Road which opened with the start of the KCR in 1910. The Kowloon-Canton Railway Report for 1910 refers:

At Hung Hom a wooden structure has been constructed which will serve well enough until such time as events necessitate the building of a terminal station.

A photo of the station can be seen here.

Kowloon Godowns [c.1904-c.1920]

Submitted by Klaus on Sun, 08/29/2021 - 00:51

Built on Kowloon Marine Lot 74. In about 1904, when the reclamation at Kowloon Point was finished, the Hong Kong & Kowloon Wharf & Godown Company built a twin-gabled godown on this lot.

Contrary to my original opinion these were not used as temporary terminus, The temporary terminus was further to the west near the old TST Post Office.

After the opening of the permanent station building, the godowns were demolished. Demolition date is unknown, possibly before the Peninsula Hotel was built (1920 is a guess). See this photo from 1927.

Detailed planning and negotiations for construction and financing of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (“KCR”) commenced in 1905. The KCR (British Section), operating as a Hong Kong Government Department, was completed and formally opened on 1st October 1910. The Chinese Section ( “CKR”) running from the border at Lo Wu to Canton  was completed a year later opening on 5th October 1911.
