Vivian Edmund FERRIER [1903-1951]

During the hostilities Vivian Ferrier served as a Warrant Officer in the HKRNVR

W/O Vivian Ferrier HKRNVR was married to ANS Nurse Olga Ferrier.

Following the ceasefire Vivian Ferrier was a PoW at North Point and then Shamshuipo.

Frank BUCKLE [????-????]

Frank Buckle was the chief instructor in engineering at the Government Trade School at Wood Road, Wanchai. He was also an Engineer/Lieutenant in the HKRNVR.

He arrived in Hong Kong in November 1936 after having served as chief engineer in the Marine Department in Nyasaland. In 1937, he resided at 11 Gap Road.

Frank Buckle married Majorie Dobson, nursing sister of the War Memorial Nursing Home at the Peak Church on 18 April 1941.

After the fall of Hong Kong, he was interned as a Prisoner-of-War.

This photo shows my father Lieutenant Arthur Brown standing on the left facing in front of his squad. I think the picture was taken at the Royal Navy Dockyard. 

Gilbert Alexander HARRIMAN [1900-1981]

The name of Gilbert Harriman is remembered in my family as the trainer of my grandfather, Charles Warren’s racing ponies, known as the “Tile” ponies, during the years 1920-1923. When one of the Tile ponies won the Professional Cup at the Happy Valley Derby, a photographer was hired to commemorate the occasion, snapping Charles Warren and his daughter Evelyn together with Harriman and the magnificent trophy for posterity. The cup has sadly disappeared. After Charles Warren’s death in 1923 the Tile ponies were all sold and Harriman’s connection with our family ceased.
