Roger Dyrck Lamble (1921–?)
Roger Dyrck Lamble (born 15 October 1921) served with the Hong Kong Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve from 5 February 1940 until 22 June 1946, last holding the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.
Following the surrender of the colony on 25 December 1941, Lamble, then aged just 20, was taken prisoner for the duration of the Japanese occupation. His captivity included confinement at Argyll Street Camp in Kowloon and North Point Camp (POW Camp “N”), where many Royal Navy and HKRNVR personnel were concentrated.
Lamble is named in a few POW theatre programmes as an actor or assistant stage manager, indicating that he took an active role in camp performances and helping explain why he preserved a significant quantity of related theatrical ephemera from his time in captivity.
After the war Lamble married in 1946 and later enrolled in the Royal Naval Volunteer Supplementary Reserve in 1951. He remained closely connected with former Hong Kong prisoners of war and served as Secretary of the Argyll Street POW Association, helping organise reunions, dinners and return visits to Hong Kong. The archive includes association directories edited by Lamble and material relating to commemorative visits, including a Hong Kong battlefield tour attended by him in 1990.
