This photo shows my father Lieutenant Arthur Brown standing on the left facing in front of his squad. I think the picture was taken at the Royal Navy Dockyard.

In December 1941 he was based at Lyemun Gap. The HKRNVR's at Lyemun, finding that they were redundant so to speak, joined up with other troops and continued to defend and were back in the Stanley region when surrender came through.

There was an abandoned lorry nearby and my father drove it with a few others unhindered to the Royal Naval Dockyard and made their surrender to the Japanese. Thus began 44 months as a POW at Sham Shui Pow camp.
