In the mid-1840s, General D'Aguilar instructed Major Aldrich to build a [army] hospital. To isolate the sick from the main living accommodation, the building was constructed at the eastern side of the army's properties (cantonment). The name D'Aguilar's Hospital was (inofficially) used, officially the name was Military Hospital.
On it's eastern and western side, two more buildings (Three-storey building on Queen's Road at eastern edge of Wellington Barracks [????-????] and Three-storey building on Queen's Road at western edge of Wellington Barracks/Howe Block [c.1845-c.1972]) were constructed.
It was operational as a hospital likely until the 1890s, after this date the building was used for other purposes (probably offices). At some date the name was changed to Main HQ Block.
The building was demolished around 1964 and replaced by the New Rodney Building [c.1965-c.1991].
