Edith May Begley was a Salvation Army missionary. She was married to Major Colin Keith Henry Begley of the Salvation Army. They arrived in Hong Kong in 1941. Major Begley came to take charge of the Salvation Army's relief work in Hong Kong and South China and later administer the communal feeding centres that were set up by the government.
She joined the Auxiliary Nursing Service after her arrival. During the Battle of Hong Kong, she was stationed at La Salle Relief Hospital.
Edith M. Begley's name/signature appears under "La Salle College" (La Salle Relief Hospital) on the right on the "Day Joyce Sheet" held by the Imperial War Museum.
