Beatrice Ann Stapleton was better known as Sister Matthew Marie. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and was assigned to Hong Kong in 1935 as teacher at Maryknoll Convent School.

During the fall of Hong Kong, she was stationed at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, a group of eighteen Sisters of the school, including Sister Matthew Marie were interned at Stanley Camp.

Sister Matthew Marie left Stanley Camp in June 1942 and was repatriated to the United States. After the end of the Pacific war, she returned to Hong Kong to continue her teaching.
