Mary (Kailey) was a British citizen who married American William Kailey after his wife died in 1939. They were interned together in Stanley Camp.  When repatriation was offered to American citizens in 1942, Kailey then 62 years old, chose to remain with his wife, Mary in Stanley Camp.

Mary had three grown-up children from a previous marriage, a son and daughter in camp as well as another son who had served with the HKVDC interned in Sham Shui Po Camp.
