Harland A. Park and his wife, Catherine Park were American missionaries serving the Assemblies of God Church. They came to Hong Kong in 1930 and went into China in 1931. He later became Superintendent of the South China District of the Assemblies of God.
The Parks had two daughters, Dorothy and Elizabeth who were born in Hong Kong. They resided in Kowloon during the Japanese attack in December 1941 and were later interned in one room in the Kowloon Hotel together with the Hall family, who were also missionaries, prior to their removal to Stanley Internment Camp. The Park family was repatriated to the United States in 1942.
After the war, H. A. Park and Catherine returned to Hong Kong to continue their missionary work. He died in Hong Kong in 1971 (see here ) whilst his wife predeceased him in 1961. Both are buried in the Hong Kong Cemetery. H. A. Park's name lives on in the Assembly of God Harland Park Memorial Church in Shau Kei Wan.
The Assemblies of God Heritage Magazine (Winter 1991) has an article on "Missionaries Caught in the Crossfire" in Hong Kong during the Japanese invasion. The Park family and their fellow missionaries are mentioned, including photos of themselves on board the exchange ship "Gripsholm". See here
