Her full name was Isabelle Joan Dupuy. She was born 17th April 1913. She was twenty-eight years old when war began. She was billeted in Block 10 room T4 with two other women, Wendy Whitaker and Adelaide Morgan. Block 10 is part of St Stephens College known as the clasroom block . The building still remains. T/4 was clearly a small room large enough for three persons. I have a note on file that she brought money into Camp from HSBC staff for benefit of interned staff (HKRS 163-1-80)
David: Adelaide was a QAIMNS Nurse and Wendy was a VAD Nurse so both would have worked in military hospitals like Bowen Road and St Alberts Temp Hospital. I'm not sure about Isabelle's occupation and she was not on the list of VADs. I assume James Thomas Dupuy was her husband.
I'm not sure what T means in the billeting. There were several rooms designated as such ie T1, T2,T 3, T4 etc in Block 10 which was a classroom block and all such billets seemed to hold three. Philip
He is listed in Evan Stewart's HK Volunteers in Battle as being a POW at time of Japanese surrender. So I assume he was present and serving during hostilities. There is also reference in the official HSBC History of Mrs Dupuy taking money into Stanley Camp for HSBC staff when she entered camp which the History suggests was November 1942.
Thanks for clearing that up. The Jurors lists show her husband worked for HSBC, so the mention of her bringing money into Stanley Camp for HSBC staff makes sense.
