Tai Wan Beach was open for use to the general public on 7 May 1927. A bus service from Kowloon Star Feery to the beach was operated on the same day. The opening of Tai Wan beach and other beaches to the public was due to the closure of Stonecutters Beach, with the latter beach being reserved for the Military and Naval Authorities.
