Obituary
Mr. W. F. Simmons
Mr. W. F. Simmons General Manager of the Hong Kong Tramways, Limited, died at his residence, No. 358, The Peak, on Monday night, at the age of 49.
Mr. Simmons was interned at Stanley during the war and had never completely recovered from the effects.
He had been confined to his residence by his doctor's orders since the tramways dispute began more than a month ago.
He joined the Tramways about 27 years ago and succeeded Mr. L. C. F. Bellamy as General Manager shortly after the end of the war.
He served on the Urban Council for a short period after the Liberation of the Colony.
His wife and daughter are in London.
Mr. C. F. Johnston, Assistant General Manager, is now Acting General Manager of the Tramway Company.
A tribute to Mr. Simmons was paid at the Urban Council meeting yesterday by Dr. J. P. Fehily, Chairman of the Council.
Dr. Fehily said that Mr. Simmons was always keenly interested in the welfare of his employees, and he asked members of the Council to stand for one minute as a mark of respect towards their former colleague.
A funeral service will take place at St. John's Cathedral at 4.30 p.m. today. The cortege will pass the Monument at 5 p.m.

W. F, Simmons was on a British Army Aid Group list of those initially kept out of Stanley to carry out various functions, in his case presumably connected with the upkeep of the tramways. The list was drawn up in late 1942, and, according to the MacNier Papers, he was sent into Stanley on November 13, 1942.
