I apologise for contacting you out of the blue, but I believe your parents may have run a European style pub in Kowloon, called The Sportsman's Arms, with my father? Formerly a major in the RASC, my dad's given name was Cecil Henry Dalton but he was always known as Jim. He left me and my mother when I was 6 years old, in the early 1950s, and it's only relatively recently that I discovered when and how he died, that he was already married to someone else when he 'married' my mum, and that he is buried in Hong Kong. I realise this is all a terribly long time ago now, and that you may never have known him personally but I just wondered if you might remember him, or maybe hearing your parents talking about him? I think they may have had a falling out with him at some point. I have the impression that his life was quite chaotic, but he was still my dad and I would love to learn more about him if at all possible before it's too late!

Dear Mr Eager,
I apologise for contacting you out of the blue, but I believe your parents may have run a European style pub in Kowloon, called The Sportsman's Arms, with my father? Formerly a major in the RASC, my dad's given name was Cecil Henry Dalton but he was always known as Jim. He left me and my mother when I was 6 years old, in the early 1950s, and it's only relatively recently that I discovered when and how he died, that he was already married to someone else when he 'married' my mum, and that he is buried in Hong Kong. I realise this is all a terribly long time ago now, and that you may never have known him personally but I just wondered if you might remember him, or maybe hearing your parents talking about him? I think they may have had a falling out with him at some point. I have the impression that his life was quite chaotic, but he was still my dad and I would love to learn more about him if at all possible before it's too late!
with warmest wishes
