He was an American journalist and syndicated newspaper columnist from the 1930s through the 1970s. He was an influential journalist and top insider in Washington from 1945 to the late 1960s, often in conjunction with his brother.

December 1941 - Joseph Wright Alsop Jr
Joseph Wright Alsop Jr. had been serving as an adviser to the Chinese Government and arrived in Hong Kong from Manila before the Japanese attack. He had been scheduled to leave after 9 December but subsequently became stuck in Hong Kong after flights were cancelled.
He was interned at Stanley by the Japanese in 1942, and repatriated with other Americans later that year.
