A significant social event in Chinese society at the time was documented in a report published in the Nanyang Siang Pau on Friday, July 18, 1930, on page 6 of its news column. The headline read: "Mr. Yuan Ka-tseung's Daughters Depart for England to Study Construction and Surveying." The article detailed that Mr. Yuan Ka-tseung, a prominent businessman from Kuala Lumpur, had recently sent his daughters to London, England, for further studies.

The report highlighted Mr. Yuan Ka-tseung 's prominent background as the owner of Wencheng Printing Bureau and the general agent for Hong Kong Watsons soda in Nanyang. It noted that his children were well-versed in both Chinese and Western languages, and his sons, including Mr. Sishun, had followed their father into business. The article specifically mentioned his eldest daughter, Mo-yan (Hilda), then 25 years old, who was studying medicine in Hong Kong and nearing graduation. It further stated that his second daughter, Mo-ting (22), and third daughter, Mo-yu (20), both graduates of Kuala Lumpur English Girls' High School, intended to study construction and surveying in England. They were scheduled to depart from Singapore on July 25 aboard the British mail ship 'Mooltan'. This plan for the younger daughters to specialize in fields like architectural design, civil engineering, and surveying was considered a groundbreaking endeavor in female education in the 1930s.
