The attribution to John Thomson is incorrect because the photo is from c.1877 (Thomson left HK in 1872). The date is derived from the fact that Dent & Co. (Centre) / Holiday & Wise / later Melcher's - ML 7 Sec B [1858-c.1904] has its third storey, which was likely added after the June 1875 fire.
