1910s Praya East, Wanchai (Johnston Road)

Scan of a coloured postcard. Circa 1910s.

Looking west on Praya East, Wanchai from the junction of today's Johnston and Luard Roads. At the end of the long row of buildings are the Blue Buildings, near Arsenal Street.

The curved building on the extreme left is today the premises of the Woo Cheong Teahouse, formerly "The Pawn" restaurant and pawnshop. The businesses of the barber and embroidery shops can also be viewed here

In the centre is a Chinese funeral staircase. Mourners and bystanders have gathered by the waterfront.
