broadwood rd. 1916 17

I think 1916-17 may be the first year that Broadwood Road properties were recorded in the Rate Books. The final numbering had not been sorted out. The bungalow belonging to the Rev. Dr. Webb Anderson had previously been listed in Leighton Hill. I believe it had been built many years before the creation of Broadwood Road, but it was absorbed into the new Inland Lot no. 1947. Here the bungalow is recorded as 20 Broadwood Road, but it would subsequently become no. 19. Interestingly, Charles Warren and John Olson had joint ownership of no. 13 Broadwood Road until May, 1916.

Thanks for that clarification, Jill.  I will emend my piece on #19 Broadwood Road.

If I understand it right, #19 was a pre-existing house (bungalow?) belonging to the Webb Andersons, and counted in with the Leighton Hill addresses.  Then renumbered when Broadwood Road was built?

I'm afraid I can't answer that off the cuff. It seems that 21 Broadwood Road was known as "The Bungalow" if we go by the notices advertising it for sale. It would be strange if both houses were known as "The Bungalow." It's possible that no. 19 was unofficially known as "The Cottage". Have I suggested that in the past? If the Rate Books don't name the house, it may not be possible to verify, as we have no written correspondence from the period. Confusions are certainly possible! Are you writing an article on Broadwood Road?
