This is the inscription on the grave of Olaf/Olof Olson, younger brother of John Olson and who had recently taken over management of the National Hotel and Tavern from John when he died. A search for his death certificate was unsuccessful and there is no record of the cause of his death. It was a difficult year for John Olson. His daughter Hannah had been born in May and her mother, Yau Kum may have died in childbirth. That may be the reason why it took John two years to get the gravestone for Olaf erected. John will have had to take back the reins of the National Hotel and Tavern until he was able to sell the licence to a suitable successor.
The inscription below is from Patricia Lim's data base of grave inscriptions in the Colonial Cemetery.
