decorative gateway new territories 1955

This edifice was up near the border with communist China.  I have called it a gateway but that is just because of its appearance - it led nowhere!  I must assume that it was most likely a molument to someone or something.  Can anybody help on this?

Hi Curly, this is the Heung Hoi Ming Shan (香海名山) Pai lau on Tsing Shan Monastery Path. It's quite famous. I've created a place for it here: https://gwulo.com/node/59926. Your image shows the view looking from the west towards the east, so that is the Castle Peak Bay/Tuen Mun valley in the background.

PhilK - Thank you for the correction.

Being  pretty new to the matter of posts, should I amend the text on my entry or does everybody who visits see the correct designation you have entered?

Although we swaw frequently at a beach just off the Yuen Long /Tai Po road (which we RAF lads called Castle Peak beach) I only once went to the temple and actual Village of Castle Peak.  I've already made one mistake on this stating that a view of packed sampans was there.  David pointed out to me that the photos were actually of Aberdeen so I amended the ones I believe that he refered to.   I do have a photo of four or five  Nuns (?) and an acolyte kneeling at prayer, which I have yet to upload, and I thought that this was at the Castle peak monastry rather than the one at Sek Kong,

I shouldn't worry about changing the page title, Curly, most people will see the place page for it on the map which your image is now linked to.  If you click through to the place page I have added some historical details fromthe Antiquities Appraisal Board. This place also gets a mention on the person page for John Alexander Fraser who was one of the men who sponsored its construction.

Please do upload any photos you have, they are all very interesting. If you can't remember where they were taken then we can have a go at trying to figure it out.
Phil

This image is captured from a 1963 French film, L'Inconnue de Hong Kong, but shows the view looking back the other way (towards the mountain).
