We would usually go to see at least one film when on leave. In the big cinemas they were always in english language and there would be a long, narrow screen at one side which would show the chinese character subtitles - thes were usually in a glittering format so that they were easy to read. We could do with that now for our subtitles, not have them on the film where you cannot always see them as they often merge in with the picture.
