Quarndon & Military Huts
I think the photo was taken a bit earlier than 1905 because;
There is no sign of Quarndon, which would be seen above No.6 Police Station if in existence at the time. Quarndon was constructed sometime between 11 Aug 1902 (site auction date) and 18 Mar 1904 (mentioned in Peak Re-numbering Exercise).
There are no huts on the flattened hilltop to the right of the Mt Austin Hotel/Barracks. The hilltop was flattened when the hotel was built for the enjoyment of guests as a viewpoint, but military huts were erected after the hotel became a barracks in 1897. I don't have an exact date for the appearance of the huts, but I think they were present by 1901/2.
The confirmed date range of the photo is therefore sometime between 1893 (earliest time the Tramway Managers House could have been completed) and 1904 (latest time construction of Quarndon could have started, but ws probably before 1901/2 (huts appeared)
