There are scaffolds on Block G. On the 1901 photo this block has a ground floor only, and in (around) 1935, two more storeys were added.
Soldiers' Club
Mention is made here of the opening of the Soldiers' Club.

Hi Klaus,
In the description of the 1900 opening of the Soldier's Club that Moddsey found, it says:
On the ground floor, a bar is provided. Upstairs there are dining, billiards and reading rooms.
So there was at least one more floor. The upper floors were set back from the street, so I think that's why they're not seen in the 1901 photo.

obviously, upper floors were there already from the beginning. As there are scaffolds on the 1930s photo, I now think they added the balconies as seen here:
