CE Warren Cover.jpeg

I came across this Drain Cover, and was happy to see the company's name had been shared here before. This photographed was taken inside the grounds of Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. The school was completed in 1936, and I guess the covers were original, installed when the school was completed.

Thank you so much for posting this photo of a C.E. Warren manhole cover. I was hoping another one might be found. Moddsey posted one that he found at King Yin Lei at https://gwulo.com/atom/23313 but this one is in even better condition. It ties in with the client list recently posted by IDJ at https://gwulo.com/atom/37985 citing the Maryknoll Convent as one of the institutions for which C.E. Warren & Co., under the management of my uncle, Leslie Warren in 1936, had built sanitary installations. Maybe not very glamorous, but exciting to know that bits of our family history still survive in Hong Kong and will pretty certainly outlive me.

Hi Jill, I am very pleased that this photo offered an additional bit of record to your family history in HK. If I had not mistaken, I saw quite a few more covers around the campus, so next time I visit, I will certainly make a point to photograph a few more of them and share them here.  You are very right that these covers are going to be around for a bit longer than us - a testimony to the quality of the product your family offered!

That's a very kind offer, Mark. I fear there may be no variation in the pattern, but it would be really nice to confirm that these covers are surviving. I now wonder if there are some at the other places in Hong Kong mentioned in the client list posted by IDJ, namely the Italian Convent and the Tiger Balm Mansions. I wish I had paid more attention to where I was putting my feet when I was in Hong Kong!
