I've been looking at this 1960-shot TV show (see here for all posts)for the last few weeks and spotted what I believe to be the former house at #10 Bluff Path (the plot is now filled by Sherwood's Bluff development).
I wonder if anyone knows anything about it? Looking at the aerial images from the mapping office, it was still around in 1978 but by 1980 had been demolished and the current development already in place.
I agree with you that this house is likely to be Knocklayd (No 300 The Peak) which stood at 10 Bluff Path from at least the 1920's until demolished in 1980, according to "A little investigation has revealed that this property was once located at 10 Bluff Path on the Peak. The current development on the same site is called Sherwood's Bluff and was completed in 1981. Looking at aerial photos, the property was still there in 1978 but had been demolished by 1980." https://hkmacaufilmtvlocations.blogspot.com/search?q=Bluff+Path
In your screenshot of their opening scene you are able to see Mount Gough and some of the mansions on Pollock's Path up there. That places this particular house in the very same location that Knocklayd sat. That all tells us that their film must have been taken from the other side of the house (180 degrees) from the location that the LOC's photo was taken and towards the south over Aberdeen Harbour was taken.
Even so there are some "markers" on the LoC photo of Knocklayd that match. Notably the flat roofs, the little chimneys and stokes that rise from the roofs, the blockish shapes of the various wings of the house, and the many smallish vertically upright rectangular windows.
None of this proves the photo above is of Knocklayd but it sure seems like it is. I think you have found only our 2nd photo, so far, of Knocklayd - 300 The Peak at 10 Bluff Path. Regards, Graham
The episode Philk referred to of the 60s series "Hong Kong", ie "Episode 17 - Night Cry" can be seen at the above Daiylmotion link. Phil's screenshot capture of the house we think is Knocklayd appears in the title sequence in the first 15 seconds. I havent viewed the whole B&W episode of 51 mins yet, but I think I will soon. Who knows what other scenes from Hong Kong in the 60s might pop up, Regards, Graham
