This group of photos was taken in Tai Hang on School Street. and I would love the help if the group.    My guess is that it his was to prevent flooding of the ground floor. What do you think?

Yes, some sort of anti-flooding barrier seems likely. You'd need to lift the strip out of the bottom, then slide a board down into the grooves.

Any chance you can ask them for a demonstration?
