This was a colourful event. Do you remember where it was held? It looks like it could have been one of those temporary theatres that go up for Chinese Opera performances.
It was held, as you said, in a temporary theatre that was constructed in the area of what is now the Central Library in Causeway Bay. I was using 400ASA slide film so i was able to take photos in lower light conditions but they do lose a lot of colour.
