Photographer is looking across Queen's Road West towards the Gas Works, and Clarence Terrace behind.

The curve of Hill Road is just visible on the right of the photo, and Hong Kong University can be seen in the top-left corner.

Date picture taken
14 May 1934

If its what I think it is, this event gets a paragraph in my book. It occured in May 1934. 41 were killed, including children. Most lived in Darley and Clarence Terrace.
