Abdul's shop

On a recent photograph showing the Chinese workers' quarters at Little Sai Wan, I am sure that the male figure is that of Abdul who ran a small shop selling all sorts of bits and pieces of 'gear'.  We bought flip flops, photograph albums, hawaiian beach shirts and various other things from him.  His shop was in the semi basement well of the main staircase to Gibson block.

In late 1987, when I had the chance to re-visit the camp immediately before it was demolished, I wandered into his old shop and was amazed to find that two shelving units from his time were still in situ - probably far too heavy and cumbersome to be worth removing before the building was brought down.  By all means use this image on your site if it is of any interest but I shall not be offended if you think that it is too obscure!

Looking at some of the things we've talked about here, it's hard to think of anything too obscure! Thanks to Andrew for the photo & text.
