This is a photo belonging to my paternal grandfather John Hubert Bottomley. It is dated 11 July 1924 on the back, but not sure if that is when it was actually taken or if that is when he posted it home.

The photo shows a park in front of the HK Club, so it was taken before 1922 when that land was cleared to build the temporary pavilion to welcome the Prince of Wales. In 1923 the Cenotaph was erected there, so there were no trees there after 1922.
Given that the plants in the park are well-established I'll guess 1920-21 for the date.
Looking at the white lettering in the bottom right corner, I wonder if this was a commercially produced photo?

I think the main photo may have been a commercially produced photo given the series number at bottom right.
David has got the period of 1920-21 correct. A photo of the Hong Kong Club and Statue Square taken during the Peace Day Celebration in 1919. Note the single tree on the left side of Chater Road in the main photo and in the one below.
