Dorothy Catherine Kane was better known as Sister Joseph Marie. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and arrived in Hong Kong in 1930. She initially taught in Kowloon, then at Holy Spirit School and later Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong.
After the fall of Hong Kong, she was residing at Maryknoll Convent School. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Joseph Marie were interned at Stanley Camp.
She was released from camp in June 1942 and repatriated to the United States.

Sister Joseph Marie
When the Battle of Hong Kong began, Sister Joseph Marie was assigned to the First Aid Post at Maryknoll Convent School. [On the afternoon of the eleventh] the first-aid post at M.C.S. was disbanded. Instead, the nearby La Salle College of the Christian Brothers was to house the Red Cross.
