Paifang
The traditional arch was built in the 1950s following the renovation of the hospital. The couplets on the front and back of the paifang were created by famous Chinese calligraphers Cen Guang-yue and Au Kin-kung.
Are you suggesting that this is a different gate or that it is purely my anglicising of the name which is wrong? It would certainly appear to be the same gate. However, that said there is a further difference - according to the signpost in this photo, Yuen Long is to our right. When I was there in 1955 the hospital and gate where on the righthand side of the road as you came from Sek Kong and Kam Tin. If I still have a reasonable memory of the geography, one passed the turn-off of the Fan Ling road, also on ones right, just before you reached the hospital. The hospital stood in isolation in 1955, there was no other building on either side of the road and more fields between it and Yeun Long.
Hi Curly, Terewong is just correcting the name. The hospital is Pok Oi. It's definitely the same gate. The signpost you mention isn't pointing to Yuen Long but it is saying that this is the Yuen Long 'section' (元朗段) of Castle Peak Road, it's confusing because of the arrow shape but it's a bit of a red herring. The gate is still on the right hand side as you enter from the east (Sek Kong/Kam Tin).
