The captain of ss Hung On was my grandfather A.A.Laihovetsky, whose daughter Zena was the first non-British child admitted to CBS when Sir Reginald Stubbs was Governor, as a stateless ex-Russian.
The comments following detail the ship's owners name in 1929, and the ship's origins.
Captain Laihovetsky was also associated in some way with ss K'ung Fu-tzu (Confucius), where he received a medal in 1925 whose characters translate as "Extinguish a Fire Award".
A.A. Laihovetsky, died from TB at the French Hospital in 1942.

Hi,
Would you mind sending me a soft copy of this picture so that I can add it to our historical records of A.A. Laihovetsky?
Thanks so much.
Best,

The page https://www.searlecanada.org/sunderland/sunderland079.html has a history of this ship and says:

The "Wear Built Ships" site also details the history of the HUNG ON.
