Just below & left of the caption "Terminal Building" is a notch in the coastline. Is that notch the location of the sea wall shown at the right of the photo above?
Greetings. 1949 was a pivotal year for China and Hong Kong. This plane's slow ascend could be the result of excessive cargo and/or passengers on-board.
Thank you IDJ for this photo. The same summer, my parents and us siblings moved hurridly from Canton (now Guangzhou) to Sham Shui Po. This was a typical street scene I saw after our arrival. It was a big change for me from a home with rice paddies nearby, to one with tall concrete buildings, people and cars everywhere. Regards, Peter
I have only just seen this photograph but it confirms my memory of, when the B.O.A.C. Argonaut was just about to touch down at Kait Tak early on 24 October 1957, seeing through my window on the port side of the plane people waving downwards at the plane from their top storey windows. Those must have been the same blocks of flats as on the photograph. The pilot had warned us that the landing would be very interesting!
