The neon sign of the Cathay Hotel could be seen int the photo while the Waldo building had already been demolished. Look's like the Shaw's had had an arrangement to put on their billboards temporarily there.
If the Roxy is concerned, it was at the back of the photographer.
Yes he must have been standing more or less next to the tall post this side of the Roxy's porch on my colour photograph below. In late October, 1957 I took a photograph (low resolution black and white) from there, looking along the pavement to the West. (Andrew S)
