Found these images here. They were shot by an American soldier on leave during the Vietnam war in 1969, most likely between October to December 1969.
Exact location? Could the modern house in the back be Murray Building?

I think the photographer is standing on Johnston Road on the opposite side of the old Methodist Church. Note the signage of the hardware shop as it appears in the next photo posted. As for the white buidling, although it is at a strange angle, perhaps is the AIA building at the bottom of Stubbs Road.

The photographer was standing at the corner of Gresson Street, pointing the lens towards the western end of Thompson Road.
