I believe that the above this man is my great grandfather who, family rumour had it, "disappeared in Shanghai." I recently found the following entry "In loving memory/ of/ Charles Reginald Spencer/ who died/ Jan. 6th 1909/ aged 43 years/ Rest in peace#7463" on the fabulous site http://www.hkmemory.hk/collections/hong_kong_cemetery. The age fits and I am wondering how/if I could/should go about finding out more details of what he was doing in Hong Kong, how he died and if, in fact, it is my great grandfather? Any advice gratefully received. Angela Booth - angkrb at gmail.com

Do you know what he was doing in Shanghai, or when he arrived there?

Thanks David. I have just found a death notice in one of the HK papers online which confirms it is my grandfather - now to find out what he was doing there as we have no idea. Angela
