In 1957/8 the Bowrington Canal was still open but it had deteriorated into an evil-smelling open sewer. The tram stop was, and still is, on the bridge between Canal Road East and Canal Road West and you held your breath when the tram stopped!

Hi there,

The photo above showed the Wet Market on the left hand side, which was built atop the canel.  The Market was there until yielding the space for the flyovers linking up the Cross Harbour Tunnel in the turn of 1970's.

Best Regards,

T

Hi there,

In the photo there was a [三利隆粉麵廠], which is a noodle manufacturer.  They also handled wholesale and retail.  The vendor still exist today except they are not around the area anymore.

They have a retail shop in Mongkok these days.

Best Regards,

T

Hello Moddsey,

The sequence of photos you linked to is quite a complete journey along the tram line from Wanchai right down to the Shau Kei Wan terminus.  The photographer even has a couple of shots of the boat dwellers in Aldrich Bay.

David, that sequence ought to be linked to Gwulo's article about the views along the tram line.  Of course, you may already have done so.
