1897 Victoria Road Foundation Stone

Mon, 09/22/2014 - 20:48

To mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897, the Victoria Road Foundation Stone was originally placed at the western end of Hong Kong Island, at what would become the start of the new Victoria Road. In 1977, it was "re-discovered" in a sadly neglected state. It was renovated and moved to the junction of Victoria Road and Mount Davis Road. A re-dedication ceremony was held on 22 December 1977, which also marked the end of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II.

Hi there,

I Walked by the stone earlier today and jotted down the engravings:

This stone was laid by H.E. William Robinson KCMG to commemorate the completion of the 60th year of the reign of Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria

I have forgotten to jot down the text on the metal plate, however.

Best Regards,

T
