Named after: Built to commemorate the 60th year of Queen Victoria's Reign.

Details

The road commences at Kennedy Town and traverses the southern slopes of Mount Davis and the adjoining hills to Aberdeen. opening out en route a portion of the island which has hitherto been practically inaccessible. It is 5 miles long, has a width of 16 feet and is designed as a carriage road. (source)

Timeline

  • 1897: Stone to mark the commencement of “Victoria Road” was successfully laid by His Excellency the Governor on the 23rd June (Source)
  • 1903: Street finished and taken over by the government in November (see Report)
  • 1922 (possibly later): Street renamed to Victoria Road
  • 19??: Lower part renamed to Shek Pai Wan Road (when the street was widened), Aberdeen Praya Road, and Aberdeen Main Road
