David's Cafeteria
David's Cafeteria should be (or probably will be) inside Ho Tung Mansions at the junction of Hankow and Peking Roads.
Peking Buildings - 4-12 Hankow Road
The buildings on the right are on 4-12 Hankow Road.
Kindly delete "1930s Block of European Flats" which are on 43-49 Peking Road and not in photograph and replace it with a newly created place marker for Peking Buildings, 4-12 Hankow Road here Thanks
I'm squinting my eyes to see…
I'm squinting my eyes to see what the name of the film on the marquee is on at the Star Theatre. Maybe David's software can make a clearer image but I think it has the letters "ADISE" in the title, which makes me think the word is probably "PARADISE".
Movie titles from the 1930s with the word "PARADISE" in the title include, "Trouble in Paradise" (1932 - American film), "Ladies' Paradise" (1930 - French film) and "Bird of Paradise" (1932 - American film).
American film more likely than a French film being played, this might hint the photo is from circa 1932/1933. A lot of assumptions but nice to confirm or refute. Always love a challenge!
Re: Film
From "To Let" advertisements, the buildings on the right at 4-12 Hankow Road became available for rental in September 1933 onwards.
Searching "Paradise, Star Theatre" in the Internet Archive for the years 1933/41, only one "hit" was returned for the screening of "Trouble in Paradise" on 22 July 1936. A start but it is only for reference.
