After St Joseph's club meeting in evening, went to supper with Dorothy Wilson (her birthday), Peggy, Sheila, and Gladys.


Now that Europe is cleared up and all is quiet on all the various fronts, the next move will be a terrific concentration of war material out East to be waged against Japan and it would be politic for her to pack in now than bear the horrible onslaught which will be loosed on her all over. I wonder too what happens to your job now that is over as I have presumed what you have been working at was Good work of some kind. However I hope you will be all right. It must be fine at home now, with no lighting restrictions and the start of the summer.

Heard that majority of Rosary Hill inmates have gone to Macao.

Canteen for 4 ozs. wong tong each and 1 oz. egg yolk.

We played Baileys in evening and only lost by 6.  Walked round later with Gladys, Irma, Peggy and Olive.

Churchill resigned but re-appointed to head Govt until new elections in July. Denmark severed dip. rels. with Japan. Tokyo raided for 2 ½ hrs 24th.

Went to see Annie, then Doreen who is sick.  

Olive wasn't feeling well so I worked for her therefore missed the end of May celebrations at St Stephens, where my 2 poems were recited.

Sheila is looking so animated, and Pat's eyes are shining all the time – they are engaged; he assisted at Solemn Benediction at St Stephens. Supper with Sheila.


Les Fisher in Shamshuipo records some big news in his diary:

Yesterday the Japs sent in some fresh meat, the first for two years.

Meat will soon be reintroduced in Stanley (see June 16). I've never seen a convincing explanation as to why.
