The President and Council of the Royal Asiatic Society Hong Kong note with profound sadness the death of RASHK member Mr Brian Leonard Coak who passed away peacefully in Hong Kong on 24 September 2016.

I'm looking for photos / sketches / portraits of him for the CPS project's history book. A Barrister, he succeeded Hillier as Chief Magistrate, serving from 1856-1859 . He resigned and went to Shanghai where he joined the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs as Commissioner .
He died in Shanghai in 1863, and was buried in Shantung Road Cemetery there . His grave shows that he was a freemason. <Read more ...>
